ELPA High Policy Meeting

From Risk to Action: Preventing liver health crises through NCD literacy and care

On 4 December 2025, ELPA returned to the European Parliament for its second High Policy Event, “From Risk to Action: Preventing liver health crises through NCD literacy and care.” This event reaffirmed ELPA’s dedication to elevating liver health as a European public health priority. Through expert discussions and personal patient stories, speakers explored the complexities of managing comorbid conditions, the essential contribution of patient organisations in designing care pathways, and the potential of EU policies and initiatives to drive innovation—from prevention and early detection to treatment—particularly in the context of liver cancer.

During this event, Prof. Pere Ginès gave a 30-minute presentation to an audience of 35 patient representatives from 30 European countries. During his talk, he outlined the feasibility of implementing liver fibrosis screening in the general population. He also discussed the supporting evidence derived from the development of the LiverRisk score.
