The Fundació de Recerca Clínic Barcelona-Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (FRCB-IDIBAPS) (https://www.clinicbarcelona.org/en/idibaps) is a public research centre dedicated to biomedical research, founded in 1996 to broaden the clinical research of the Hospital Clinic de Barcelona (HCB), and maintains strong links to the University of Barcelona (UB). It is one of the leading biomedical research centres in Spain driving forward original multidisciplinary biomedical research on multiple diseases, with the mission to translate “knowledge into cure”. The broad vision of FRCB-IDIBAPS Strategic Plan is to improve the health and quality of life of citizens through high impact research and collaborations, at the highest level of scientific integrity, public accountability, and social responsibility.
HOSPITAL CLINIC DE BARCELONA (HCB)
Hospital Clinic of Barcelona (HCB) (https://www.clinicbarcelona.org/en) is a university hospital with 4,500 professionals covering most of medical specialties. It forms part of the Catalan Public Hospital Network and is both a high-complex tertiary hospital and a community hospital providing services to more than half million citizens. HCB is ranked the best hospital in Spain and 59th worldwide according to Newsweek. HCB is the highest ranked hospital in Spain in various areas of research and innovation (e.g. top participant in Societal Challenge 1-Health in H2020). Together with its associated research institute (FRCB-IDIBAPS) and the primary care centres (CAPSBE), it is an important contributor to the research & innovation ecosystem in Catalonia, Spain and Europe.
FRCB-IDIBAPS coordinates the LIVERAIM project in collaboration with the industry partner Roche and leads the analysis of biomarkers for early detection of liver disease in WP1. FRCB-IDIBAPS and its associated hospital HCB contributes to the recruitment of patients for the clinical study of WP4.
TEAM MEMBERS
Dr Adrià Juanola
is a member of the LiverAim Research Team, he is a Physician in Hepatology as well as a member of the Research Group investigating Chronic Liver Diseases, focusing on cirrhosis and associated complications at the FRCB-IDIBAPS. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona
Dr Jordi Gratacos
forms part of the LiverAim Research team as the scientific co-ordinator working alongside Dr Elisa Pose and Dr Pere Ginès. He is a qualified hepatologist and is a member of the Research group investigating Chronic Liver Diseases at FRCB-IDIBAPS focusing primarily on Alcohol associated liver disease.
Dr Manuel Morales
is the head of the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetic Department of the HCB. He is a lead researcher for translational research into new strategies for therapeutics and diagnosis for liver diseases at FRCB-IDIBAPS and an associate researcher at the CIBERehd. He is also an associate professor of medicine at the University of Barcelona
